Phillips Scholars Get Inside Edge

Phillips PetroleumIn 1998, under the direction of David Casselberry ’79 CSM graduate, Phillips Petroleum Company started a new scholarship program entitled "Phillips Scholars Program."

This program assists a limited number of incoming freshmen students planning to major in either Petroleum Engineering or Geophysics and Geophysical Engineering.

This year, Phillips Petroleum reaffirmed its commitment to the program by donating $60,000.

An award from the program is prestigious, since it can cover a recipient’s total tuition and fees for four years.

Each Phillips Scholar will have two mentors; one a Mines faculty member, who will provide the Scholar with personalized academic input, and the second a Phillips employee, who will give the student a business perspective.

In addition, the Phillips Scholars will have an opportunity to be involved in a variety of personal and professional enrichment activities and attend a special recruitment day at Phillips Petroleum.

These events are designed to give the Scholars exposure to corporate headquarters and an opportunity to meet employees.

Phillips Petroleum encourages all Scholars to apply for summer internships with the company.

Phillips also contributed an additional $40,000 to provide unrestricted support to various departments and scholarships to students majoring in Chemical Engineering and Petroleum Refining, Geophysical Engineering, or Petroleum Engineering.
