Gifts to Fund the Future

Endowed funds endure. They furnish support for Mines that continues in perpetuity, providing a financial foundation for the institution’s future. By establishing an endowment, you can help the School prosper today—and influence its future success.

You can create an endowment in your own name. Or you can establish one to honor a loved one, make a special gift during a class reunion or commemorate another occasion.

Endowments can be established at any time with a gift of $25,000. Or they can be established through a bequest provision in your will. Some people do both. They establish an endowment now so they can watch it grow and see their generosity benefit Mines students. They may add to it periodically during their lives. Then, through their wills, they make provision for a final and often larger contribution.

When you establish an endowment, you express confidence in the future of Mines—creating a living legacy that will benefit the School indefinitely.

For more information, please call the Office of Institutional Advancement at (303) 273-3275.

Gold Pan Society

Gold Pan Society – seniors show thanks through generosity.

The class of 1999, under the leadership of Class President Russ Wurth, began what they hope will become a tradition of giving at Mines.

Seniors contributed money to a special fund to recognize a junior who best exemplifies the "Mines spirit."

All seniors who donated to the award became members of the newly formed Gold Pan Society. Members had their names inscribed in a logbook, which is displayed in the Ben H. Parker Student Center along with a gold miner’s pan symbolizing the society. The pan is inscribed: "By Giving Others the Strength of Your Courage and the Will of Your Passion, Your Spirit Will Live On."

At the senior banquet on May 6, the night before graduation, the senior class was proud to present David Estabrook with the inaugural Gold Pan Society award of $500.

New Mines Magazine Editor

Mines Magazine has a new editor, Maureen Keller, who comes to us from Lafayette College in Pennsylvania, where she was news editor for the publications department.

She is very familiar with academia having worked at University of Wisconsin, University of Arizona, Florida Atlantic University and Lafayette College.

Keller has a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s degree in journalism.

She began her journalism career as a newspaper reporter in San Diego, California. She later worked as special projects editor for Modern Maturity magazine.

She also has written two cookbooks, Vegetarian Pizza and Soy Sauce Cookbook, in addition to contributing to three others.

If you would like to contact Keller about a story idea, news about yourself, or for any other reason, her e-mail address is maureen.keller@mines.edu.

Slogan Contest

CSM President Theodore Bickart has asked the Alumni Association to organize a contest among alumni, faculty, staff, and students to develop an eye-catching slogan to be inscribed on the Highway 6 School of Mines sign.

The winning slogan may also be used on CSM letterhead, web pages, or in marketing brochures to promote the institution.

Ideally, the slogan should be linked to the mission of the school and should characterize the qualities that make Mines a special institution.

We hope to have the Board of Trustees select the winning slogan by the Spring of 1999.

Please forward your slogan submission to csmaa@mines.edu or mail your submission to Slogan Committee, PO Box 1410, Golden, Colorado   80402-1410.
