Professional societies offer a chance for professional development outside the
classroom and job through guest speakers, conferences and symposiums, exchanges of
information and ideas, and networking with other members.Many of these organizations also offer internship, fellowship, and scholarship opportunities. American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) - The largest professional geological society, this groups seeks to foster scientific research, to advance the science of geology, to promote technology, and to inspire high professional conduct. American Ceramic Society - The world's leading organization dedicated to the advancement of ceramics. American Chemical Society - A self-governed individual membership organization that consists of 161,000 members that try and promote chemistry to the public. American Consulting Engineers Council of Colorado - A trade association dedicated to assisting its members in achieving higher professional, ethical, business and economic standards to provide quality consulting engineering services for their clients and the public. American Indians in Science and Engineering (AISES) - This society nurtures the building of community by bridging science and technology with traditional Native values. American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) - For nearly 75 years, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) has been the principal voice and technical society devoted to continuing contributions and global leadership in the aerospace community. American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) - Provides forums to advance the theory and practice of the profession, upholds high professional standards and ethics, and supports excellence in education. American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) - The lead professional organization serving civil engineers and those in related disciplines. American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE) - A nonprofit member association of more than 12,000 deans, professors, instructors, and students dedicated to promoting and improving engineering and technology education. American Society of Mechanical Engineering (ASME) - Organization that seeks to be the premier organization for promoting the art, science and practice of mechanical engineering throughout the world. American Society of Metals - A society for materials engineers. American Solar Energy Society (ASES) - National organization dedicated to advancing the use of solar energy for the benefit of U.S. citizens and the global environment. ASES promotes the widespread near-term and long-term use of solar energy. American Water Works Association - An international nonprofit scientific and educational society dedicated to the improvement of drinking water quality and supply. American Welding Society - Nonprofit organization with a goal to advance the science, technology and application of welding and related joining disciplines. Association of Engineering Geologists (AGE) - AEG was developed to meet the professional needs of geologists who are applying their scientific training and experience to the broad field of civil and environmental engineering. Association of General Contractors (AGC) - AGC is dedicated to improving the construction industry daily by educating the industry to employ the finest skills, promoting use of the latest technology and advocating building the best quality projects for owners. Association of Geoscience Students at CSM - Site of the student group. Australian Society of Exploration Geophysicists - Seeks to promote the science of geophysics, and specifically exploration geophysics, throughout Australia. Bay Area Geophysical Society - A local chapter of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists. Canadian Society of Exploration Geophysicists - Seeks to promote the science of geophysics, especially as it applies to exploration, and to promote fellowship and co-operation among those persons interested in geophysical prospecting. Colorado Oil and Gas Association - Purpose is to foster and promote the beneficial, efficient, responsible and environmentally sound development, production and use of Colorado oil and natural gas. Denver Region Exploration Geologists' Society - A nonprofit organization that promotes scientific communication and interaction through a series of meetings, symposia, field trips and publications. Independent Petroleum Association of Mountain States - Group providing a forum to hear key industry spokespeople and to exchange ideas and make professional contacts. Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS) A 12,000 member society representing professionals in the fields of operations research and management science. Institute of Electrical & Electronic Engineers (IEEE) - Helps advance global prosperity by promoting the engineering process of creating, developing, integrating, sharing, and applying knowledge about electrical and information technologies and sciences for the benefit of humanity and the profession. International Association for the Management of Technology (IAMoT) National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) - To increase the number of culturally responsible black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community. Order of the Engineer - The Order of the Engineer was initiated in the United States to foster a spirit of pride and responsibility in the engineering profession, to bridge the gap between training and experience, and to present to the public a visible symbol identifying the engineer. Petroleum Society - Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy, and Petroleum. Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) - Seeks to connect government and private sector architects, engineers, and construction professionals worldwide. Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) - Society that shares information and exchanges ideas for advancing the engineering of mobility systems. Society of Economics and Business Society of Economic Geologists - An international organization of individual members with interests in the field of economic geology. Society of Economic Geologists - Student Chapter - The student branch of SEG. Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers and Scientists (SHPE) - A national not-for profit organization that promotes Hispanics in engineering, math and science. Society of Mining Engineers (SME) - An international society of professionals in the minerals industry. Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) - Seeks to provide the means to collect, disseminate, and exchange technical information concerning the development of oil and gas resources. Society of Physics Students - Promotes the professional development of students. Society of Professional Well Log Analysts - Dedicated to the advancement of the science of petrophysics. Society of Women Engineers (SWE) - Seeks to stimulate women to achieve their full potential in careers as engineers and leaders.
