The traditional red ribbon was cut September 14, 1975, by Mrs. Guy T. McBride, as she officially dedicated the first sorority house in the history of the Colorado School of Mines.

As she cut the ribbon, she said, "May this be the opening of a wider world of friendship, fun, and achievement for all the girls of Alpha Delta sorority."

Although the Alpha Delta sorority was officially established on campus November 4, 1974, Sunday marked the official dedication of the sorority house.

The house located at 816 16th Street, is owned and leased by Roy Claar, a real estate salesman in Golden.

"We felt there was a need for better inter-communication between classes of girls on campus," commented Clarissa George, a Mines junior and original of Alpha Delta. Ms. George, who gave the introductory remarks at the dedication, expressed her own enthusiasm for the future of the sorority and indicated that it was her hope that many lasting friendships would result from Alpha Delta.

Of the nine founding members of The Alpha Delta sorority, six girls remain as active members. All six girls were present Sunday for the house dedication.

The six include Suzie Handford, senior and president of Alpha Delta, Harriet Van Lieu, junior, Patricia Smith, junior, Lori Stute, sophomore and secretary, Collette Price, sophomore and treasurer, and Ms. George.

In addition to the six original members, Alpha Delta has four other actives and 13 pledges, bringing the total to 23.
